The median fee psychologists in the Western Cape publish for one individual session is R1 220, from 214 psychologists who publish a fee, read in the week of 19 October 2026. Half of them publish between R1 100 and R1 300.
For counsellors it is R650 (from 289 counsellors). Across all three categories together (psychologists, counsellors and psychometrists), the median is R850, from 503 practitioners.
These are rates practitioners publish. They are not quotes, and the fee you pay can differ.
Where these numbers come from
This directory lists 2 448 practitioners in the Western Cape. Of them, 503 publish an individual session fee: 214 psychologists and the rest counsellors or psychometrists. Of these 503 fees, 472 come from the practitioner's Psychology Today profile, 26 from their own website (read in October 2026), 3 from their platforms (read in October 2026) and 2 from their RecoMed profile.
The median is the middle value: half of the published fees are higher and half are lower. The middle half is the range from the 25th to the 75th percentile. Where fewer than 5 practitioners publish a fee, we do not show a median, because a handful of fees can swing it a long way.
