How listings work

Where listings come from

Every listing is built from a public profile on at least one of these directories:

  • Medpages: 6 163 of our listings
  • Psychology Today (South Africa): 1 788 of our listings
  • TherapyRoute: 1 460 of our listings
  • Therapist Directory (therapist-directory.co.za): 217 of our listings
  • RecoMed: 107 of our listings

Some practitioners are on more than one of these, so the numbers add up to more than the 8 475 listings on the site. We also read the HPCSA register, and 3 944 listings are matched to an entry on it. When two profiles belong to the same person, we combine them into one listing. We match on the HPCSA registration number first, then on the practitioner's own website, then on name and city when there is exactly one match. When we cannot be sure two profiles are the same person, we keep them apart.

We include psychologists, counsellors and psychometrists. We leave out social workers, psychiatrists, profiles whose category we cannot tell, and profiles with no city. Of the 24 790 people in the collection used for this version, 8 475 are listed. Another 15 557 have a page of their own but are not in the lists, counts or search: 15 367 known only from the HPCSA register, with no directory profile, and 190 whose registration is not active on the register.

How often listings are refreshed

Our collector reads these directories and the HPCSA register once a week. The site is rebuilt from a weekly collection when we publish an update. The listings on this version were collected in the week of 19 October 2026, and every page with numbers says the month they come from. If a practitioner has changed their profile since then, the source profile is more current than our listing.

What we show

For each practitioner we show what they published and what helps you find them: name, category, job titles, HPCSA number where they publish one, suburb, city and province, whether they see clients online or in person, their published session fee, therapy types, the issues they list, who they work with, languages, the medical aids they name, years in practice, a link to their own website and links to their source profiles.

What we do not show

We do not show phone numbers, email addresses, profile text or photos, even where the source directory shows them. To contact a practitioner, use their own website, the link to their source profile, or the enquiry form on their listing.

How lists are ordered

Lists are ordered by a neutral rule, and each list says which one it uses: alphabetical by name, or most complete profile first. A complete profile is one that fills in more of the fields above. The order says nothing about a practitioner's skill. We do not publish ratings, reviews or rankings.

Fees

A fee on a listing is the rate the practitioner published, on a directory profile or their own website, when we collected it. It is not a quote. Practitioners change their fees, and assessments or longer sessions are often priced differently. Ask the practitioner what you will pay before you book.

Featured: a Leachie client

This directory is run by Leachie, a Cape Town web studio. A practitioner who is a website client of Leachie can have a featured listing, as part of their paid plan with the studio. A featured listing may be placed first in the lists for its own city and issues, and it always carries the label "Featured: a Leachie client" wherever it appears.

Featured is a paid placement by a client of the studio. It is never a quality signal. It does not mean we have checked the practitioner's work, and it does not mean we recommend them.

Claim or correct your listing

If a listing is yours, use "Is this you? Claim or correct this listing" on your listing page, or email [email protected]. Tell us what is wrong and, if you have one, your HPCSA number. We check that the request comes from you before we change anything. Claiming a listing is free.

Please make the same correction on your source profile too, because each weekly collection reads it again.

Ask for a listing to be removed

Use "Ask for this listing to be removed" on the listing page, or email [email protected]. We reply within 5 business days. Once we have checked the request, we add the listing to a list of removed practitioners that every future collection respects, so it does not come back when the directories are read again.
